Video Post: Wizard World Chicago 2006, Part Four!

OK, so I finally uploaded the grainy Quicktime videos that I managed to record with my digital camera. It starts with Justin going up for the costume contest that Beth and I signed him up for without his knowledge. In retrospect, I'm not sure how I managed to get him to go up into the wrestling ring. (He was not happy.) Perhaps it was the possibility, however slim, of winning $1000 of merchandise as a grand prize. Perhaps it was the free old comic that all participants received? Who knows... Anyway, there's some footage of the awesome Capt. Jack Sparrow guy in there too. He did not enter the contest, which was fortunate for everyone else who did.

Wizard World Chicago 2006, Part Three!

There were several celebrities of varying luminosity at Wizard World...

...like Lou Ferrigno, TV's Incredible Hulk...

...Dirk Benedict, Starbuck on the original Battlestar Galactica and "Faceman" on The A-Team...

...Richard Kiel, "Jaws" in the James Bond movies...

...Erica Durance, Lois Lane on Smallville...

...and Kristen Bell, TV's Veronica Mars. She is the one entering the doorway. Beth is (was?) a big fan, but didn't want to shell out $30 to buy something for her to sign. Instead, she sneaked around trying to get a picture of her when she wasn't at her table.

Fortunately, we met many more gracious "celebrities" who were very willing to pose with us.
The Mighty Thor, for one...

...Han Solo...

...Link from "The Legend of Zelda..."

...a Gamorrean Guard...

...Captain Jack Sparrow!...

...the Transformer Bumblebee...

(It seemed really, really uncomfortable for the woman(!) inside of that costume, but it payed off for her in the end. I'll save that for Part Four...)

...and finally, Justin and I were very pleased to meet Power Girl!

Part Four will follow soon, in which our Justin is drafted into a costume contest...

Wizard World Chicago 2006, Part Two!

The Cat in the Hat was really scary.
Her hat was quite tall and her costume was hairy.

An entirely different breed of cat woman. (Not to be confused with Catwoman.)

A slightly more physically fit Superman hangs out by his giant logo.

A different Supergirl says hello to some kids.

They say that to be a Green Lantern, one must be totally without fear. I guess I'll never be a Green Lantern, because I feared this one's costume, which left nothing to the imagination.
(The mosaic effect I added to his groinal area does nothing! Aieee!)

Extremely lucrative science-fiction franchises collide when a Stormtrooper battles Master Chief.

Baby Bruce Banner tries to stave off his complete transformation into the Incredible Hulk by soothing his soul with some karaoke.

I have to say that I was extremely amused when the Super Mario Brothers showed up.

Yeah, but didn't we take any other pictures of ourselves? Part Three is next...

Wizard World Chicago 2006, Part One!

After the long comment drought, here comes a comment flood... We (Gavin, Justin, Beth, and Nick) went to Wizard World Chicago 2006! Yes, many pictures were taken...

Beth, Justin (dressed as "Shaun of the Dead"), and me (dressed as some kind of dork).

As usual, costumes abounded. Supergirl and Spider-Man were entertaining some kids...

Later, Spider-Man ran into his old Marvel pal Beast.

Disturbingly, we later saw Supergirl talking to supervillain extraordinaire Dr. Doom!

Imperial stormtroopers are always in high supply at a comic book convention.

I don't know why Batgirl would be talking to an Imperial officer, though.

There were some other Batman guys there too, like The Joker, Harley Quinn, and their daughter, I guess...

...not to mention Robin, the Boy Wonder. (Me: "Beth, did you ask him to pose like that?" Beth: "No, he just... did.")

Batman himself made an appearance with his co-workers in the Justice League of America, who maybe ought to be hitting the gym a little more frequently.

There was a wrestling ring in the middle of the convention floor where at some point some sort of wrestling was going to take place (I think), but on Saturday was mostly used for various contests and appearances. As you can see, there were some scantily cheerleader-type women associated with the wrestling league, who provided some cheesecake. Also note Captain America and Iron Man, who look like they've eaten too much cheesecake.

I'm going to break this entry up into a few smaller ones. Consider this Part One.
